So you’re interested in submitting a script to 16th Street? That’s great.
First off, have you checked out the rest of our web site? If not, you should. Check out the kind of plays we do and with whom we do them. Go ahead. I’ll wait.
Ok. So you now see that we exist to tell the stories of ALL in our community in our very intimate, 49-seat, Equity, new theater in the Berwyn Cultural Center, 9 miles from Downtown Chicago. And you’ve realized that if you are looking for big shows, musical theatre, technical wizardry, you have come to the wrong theater.
At 16th Street the playwright is Queen/King. We exist to engage our community by developing and presenting excellent new plays. Very important to us is continuing the conversation after the lights come up. Here audience and artists dialogue and exchange ideas after the play. Theater is dialogue.
Unsolicited Scripts
Please send a resume, and a query letter. Think of this query as your mission statement: include your background, prior play development/production experience, themes or ideas you are especially drawn to exploring in your work, a brief synopsis of the play you are interested in submitting, and why you think it is a good fit for 16th Street. NO sample pages at this stage, please.
No one-acts, musicals, or plays for young adults. Strong preference to Illinois residents able to commit to being a “playwright in residence” for the season.
Directors and agents are welcome to submit full-scripts.
