Don Blair began acting at Redlands High School, some say during the Coolidge Administration, although it was actually in 1960, and remained in Southern California until 1978, when he and his then girlfriend went on an audition tour of regional theatres, ending up at Missouri Rep. In 1982, with a new girlfriend, the brighter lights of Chicago beckoned, and he was off. And here he remains, 26 years later, sans girlfriends. There is no better acting town than Chicago - New York is bigger, L.A. is flashier, but for honest, inspired stage work, this is the place.
During the past 26 years, Don has worked with roughly 26 different theatre companies, from Aardvark to Zebra Xing. His favorites are Steppenwolf, Shattered Globe, Timeline, and the Filmer driven Aardvark. Favorite productions include Requiem for a Heavyweight and The Price for Shattered Globe, A Man for All Seasons at Timeline, South Pacific at Drury Lane, Oakbrook, and the never to be forgotten The Last Barbeque with Aardvark, directed by an up and coming director by the name of Ann Filmer, and written by an inspired hoyden by the name of Brett Neveu, also up and coming. Don is more down and going than up and coming, but it has been his constant joy to be a tiny part of the ongoing creative frenzy of Chicago Theatre. Thanks to all for letting me play. |
