I believe that everyone has a story that will stop your heart but people have stopped telling them because we've stopped listening. Through my autobiographical solo work it's my hope that people will recognize that our stories have a way of telling the truth and connecting us to who we are, where we come from and who we can become. Most importantly, I believe our stories connect us with each other.

Arlene Malinowski is a playwright/actor whose solo work is an extention of the social justice work she's been committed to for the last 20 years. She is so happy to be a part of 16th Street Theaters 5th Season. Her second solo show in the trilogy “Aiming for Sainthood” was commissioned by 16th Street Theater’s and part of their Inaugural Season(Yay). It was later produced by Victory Gardens and co-produced by Chicago Dramatists and the New Works Project at Millenium Park. “What Does the Sun Sound Like”, winner of LA Dramalog award, was produced in LA at West Coast Ensemble, Blue Sphere Alliance and HBO Workspace. “OR Forever Hold Your Peace” was produced by Fillet of Solo, Blue Sphere Alliance, nominated for LA Ovation Award and named “Top 5 Best Solo Plays” by New City Magazine 2009. “Kicking the Habit” was produced in LA at the Court Theater, David Henry Hwang Theater and LA Women Theater Fest. She has toured all of her solo works in venues and colleges across the country and abroad including St Louis Center of Contemporary Art, L.V. Cultural Arts Center, UCLA, Smith College, State University of NY, National Center on Deafness, Ojai Solo Series, University of Wisc, Madison, RIT. As an actor she has appeared in “By the Music of the Spheres” at the Goodman, Love Person at Victory Gardens and Pancake Breakfast with The New Colony. Her television credits include: CSI, The Division, ER, The Practice & X Files. Her short plays have been produced by Chicago One minute play festival and the El Portal theater. She has been a 3Arts nominee, Ragdale/3Arts nom. Arlene has been Artist in Residence at 16th Street theater (2009), Quad Cities Arts Program (2011) and has been a Resident Playwright at Chicago Dramatist since 2008. She has taught at Chicago Dramatists, Victory Gardens and does master classes in colleges. She has been a contributing writer to “The “Week Behind” and “More.com”. Malinowski regularly does groovy spokenword venues in LA and Chicago and when she wants to be a show-off she mentions that her solo work was cited in the Huffington Post.
